Established in 1722 by King João V, this historic fair has grown over the centuries into one of the most iconic events in the region, where heritage and innovation come together.
Originally spread across the town’s main streets and squares — with sections devoted to salt, livestock, and crafts — the fair found its permanent home near Pá Ribeira in 1971. That marked the beginning of a new chapter with the creation of FRIMOR, short for Feira de Rio Maior. By 1983, it also became known as the National Onion Fair, celebrating one of the area’s most distinctive agricultural products.
Today, the September Fair is more than just an agricultural gathering. It’s a dynamic event that brings together businesses, producers, technology, culture, music, and tradition. With the support of CNIRM – Rio Maior’s Business and Innovation Center – the fair offers a rich programme of exhibitions, food experiences, sports, cultural activities, and festive moments.
Come to FRIMOR. Celebrate tradition. Feel the heartbeat of Rio Maior.
